Kiddie Kabobs

Here are some yummy kabob ideas for kids. Some you can grill and others you can leave as-is for easy outdoor dining.

Pizza

The Lineup: Focaccia bread, Canadian bacon, pepperoni, fresh mozzarella, cherry tomatoes

Make It: Fold Canadian bacon into quarters first; brush skewers with olive oil before you grill kabobs.

Serve with: Pizza sauce

Ranch Chicken

The Lineup: Chicken nuggets, broccoli, baby carrots
Make It: Thaw nuggets and precook carrots in microwave for 2 minutes so they're easy to slide onto skewers.

Serve with: Ranch dressing

Chili-Lime Shrimp

The Lineup: Snow-pea pods, shrimp, yellow-pepper strips

Make It: Brush with Asian sweet chili sauce and lime juice before you put them on the grill.

Serve with: Extra chili sauce

Pasta and Meatballs

The Lineup: Cooked meatballs, cheese ravioli, zucchini, yellow summer squash

Make It: Boil ravioli until it's barely tender (undercooking the pasta helps it stay on the skewer).

Serve with: Pasta sauce

Polynesian Chicken

The Lineup: Pineapple, red-pepper strips, chicken pieces

Make It: Brush kabobs with olive oil before you throw them on the grill.

Serve with: Sweet-and-sour sauce

Berry Pound Cake

The Lineup: Blueberries, pound cake, raspberries, strawberries
Make It: Slice boxed pound cake, then cut out shapes with a cookie cutter or a small round glass.

Fruity French Toast

The Lineup: Peaches, French toast
Make It: Cut toast into triangles;

Serve with: syrup in a small bowl so kids can dip their skewers right in.

Banana Bites

The Lineup: Banana, strawberry yogurt, rainbow sprinkles
Make It: Dip chunks of banana into yogurt first, then skewer. Up the fiber factor by rolling bananas in crushed granola instead of in sprinkles.

Apple-PB Crisp

The Lineup: Rice Krispies Treats, peanut butter, apples
Make It: You can pipe the peanut butter onto the RK Treats, or just spread it with a knife to save time.

Marshmallow Surprise

The Lineup: Strawberries, marshmallows, fudge sauce
Make It: Skewer the strawberries crosswise through the thickest part to help them stay on

Serve with: fudge sauce

Double Melon

The Lineup: Cantaloupe, honeydew melon
Make It: Marinate fruit in a mixture of lime juice, brown sugar, and mint; cut out shapes with cookie cutters.
